Shimon Peres & Nanotechnology



Yishai, Shalom,

You know how Shimon Peres is going on and on about the wonders of nanotechnology.
I always wondered why.

Then, yesterday, listening to a podcast about nanotechnology and transhumanism, it finally dawned on me.

Trans what ? Transhumanism, according to Wikipedia:

an international, intellectual and cultural movement supporting the use of science and technology to enhance human, mental and physical abilities and aptitudes, and overcome what it regards as undesirable and unnecessary aspects of the human condition, such as disability, suffering, disease, aging, and involuntary death...

The name was coined by "our old friend" Sir Julian Huxley, the Darwinist, Eugenicist, and co-founder of the UN and first president of UNESCO.

The speaker said that transhumanists wish to re-engineer man from the cellular level, and spoke about the desire of the elite to extend their lifespan, or to create a race of soldiers who never get sick, do not need sleep, etc. This reminded me of the different kinds of people "decanted" in Aldous Huxley's (Sir Julian Huxley's brother!) anti-utopian novel "Brave New World." There are alpha's, beta's, gamma's, etc., each sub-species having their own role.

Or as Mr. Scogan (a character modeled satirically on Bertrand Russell, a friend of Sir Julian Huxley) describes how humans will be divided into subspecies in the future in Aldous Huxley's 1922 novel "Crome Yellow":

"In the Rational State ...human beings will be separated out into distinct species ... Examining psychologists ... will test each child that is born and assign it to its proper species. Duly labelled and docketed, the child will be given the education suitable to members of its species, and will be set, in adult life, to perform those functions which human beings of his variety are capable of performing."

In a previous chapter, Mr. Scogan describes how people in the future will be born.

"... An impersonal generation will take the place of Nature's hideous system. In vast state incubators, rows upon rows of gravid bottles will supply the world with the population it requires. The family system will disappear; ...."

Bertrand Russell was an advocate of a one-world government and a scientific dictatorship, in the above quotes referred to as the "rational state." This is much in keeping with Shimon Peres' ideas of a "new middle east."

Tamar Yonah frequently refers to the plans for world government as a modern day Tower of Bavel. Just as concentrating the state around the tower instead of allowing mankind to spread out and develop the world was against Hashem's plan, so is tampering with nature, as we learn from the various mitzvot relating to kilayim, growing 2 crops close together or breeding animals of different species.

Already there are reports of dangers from genetically modified corn and other products referred to as "Frankenfood." (Where is Al Gore ?)

Thus we see that there is a unifying principal behind Shimon Peres' various campaigns, namely forgetting our Jewish heritage and rebelling against Hashem's laws.

    HaShem has already created all "new" things waiting to be "discovered" by Man.

    Man, himself, can not create anything "new".

    HaShem ultimately gives permission to allow Man to bring forward a new "discovery", which HaShem has already created.

    Russia, USA, Asia pumping billions into nano. This will change our world in ways we cant imagine. Energy, water purification/desalinization,agriculture, armor... There is no reason why the jews in israel cant be leaders in this growing field. After all we (jews) have always been pioneers in the sciences.

    Personally I find Transhumanism very attractive on many levels, despite the One-Worlder’s being intent on dirtying something that would be of great benefit to Man (like they do to everything else), however TBH I would be very surprised if Transhumanism manages to even get off the ground at all, as it first has to overcome the current Gaian agenda that seeks to drag Mankind backwards in the name of environmentalism (sigh, there’s so many conflicting agenda’s and visions that it’s hard to keep track of them all).

    On a Human level I’m sure most of us can all agree that everyone wants to realize their full potential while at the same time being content and secure with who they are, one can only imagine what our true forms are like in heaven (and no I’m not talking about ethereal light bodies with no free-will - that's just lame IMO) in comparison to our current forms on this world which takes into account many variables such as: free-will, one’s nature, family genetics / upbringing, Personal Tikunim, etc that together serve to distort an individual’s physical and spiritual self like one of those unflattering parody mirrors at amusement parks.

    At a basic level more then a few people hate being human viewing it as a curse, while many others simply desire to be more then human (for example man’s fascination with Angels – despite Man being higher then Angels…), as mankind currently has to strive in vain just to attain peak physical and mental form, yet at the same time has to also maintain it once they’ve reached the mountain so to speak before age, genetics, diseases, illness and lifestyle inevitably catch up. (Plus the unexpected) – If nanotech and other future-tech can eliminate that undesirable aspect of Human decline which has broken many a person, then man can finally concentrate fully on spiritual and other matters that are of more importance.

    Not all of us for various reasons are capable of reaching our peak within our lifetimes as before we even get started we either don’t know nor ever had an opportunity to find ourselves or what we truly want from life, and some of us are not humble enough to accept the hand that G-d has given us in our current gilgul, while by the same token it’s really no consolation finding out that ones previous gilgul has achieved what they wanted out of life leaving you to finish their Tikun or dirty work, talk about getting burned badly by the one who created you. – It’s little wonder on a subconscious level why many of us feel that G-d merely sustaining ones pitiful existence is just simply not enough even if there is no malicious intent behind G-d’s actions (and yet we’re still told to be grateful to him for everything despite most of us currently living abominably stagnant lives!?).

    If it takes a Ghost in the Shell / Appleseed-like world to enable people to realize their full potential where most are Nanocyborgs / Bioroids / Whatever, who can go to the gym as a hobby despite the fact that their bodies no longer benefit from exercise while simultaneously having direct, constant connection to the Internet gaining instant knowledge via a Cyberbrain or neural-link then so be it.

    If G-d wills it then (barring the negative parts of Transhumanism) it would be a worthwhile form of compensation for most people who’re resentful or otherwise disillusioned with G-d and life in general due to the cards they were given.

    Just remember that like most things on this world, Transhumanism can be elevated for a holy purpose, after all like I said before a person can finally concentrate fully on spiritual matters, etc if they no a longer have to worry about trivial matters such as body image, the what-if’s of their physical and mental potential, etc as they will have reached their limits.

    In a sense it would be like living in the messianic era which our sages have said amongst other things that there will be no more competition, the only reason it exists at all is because man collectively and individually at this time doesn’t yet know his own defined limits (though there are also other reasons that drive competition as well).
